Book 42: Marbles: Exploring Motion and Forces

Levels: 3-4
Contextual strands: Physical world icon. Physical world

Synopsis

Every day, and usually without thinking, children respond to and anticipate the effects of forces on moveable objects. Marbles provides opportunities for children to investigate this familiar phenomenon of motion and the forces acting on objects (specifically, marbles) that affect their motion. The book focuses on patterns of motion:

  • that are within children's experience
  • that children are able to directly observe and describe.
